COMBUSTIBLE CLADDING CRISIS SPARKS SAFETY FORUM TO PREVENT A GRENFELL TOWER-STYLE TRAGEDY IN VICTORIA
Cladding Safety Victoria, the Victorian Building Authority and Strata Community Association (Vic) will tackle the state’s flammable cladding crisis at the Building Regulation & Cladding Rectification Forum on February 26.
Two years after the release of the Building Confidence (Shergold Weir) Report, co-author Bronwyn Weir will facilitate the forum for owners corporation managers and strata industry suppliers.
Speakers include directors and decision-makers from The Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), The Victorian Building Authority (VBA), The Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS), Municipal Building Surveyors Group (VMBSG) and Victorian Managed Insurance Agency (VMIA).
CSV CEO Dan O’Brien will talk about its policies and procedures; CHU on the insurance landscape; SCAV suppliers on the reality of rectification and learn from the Lacrosse building claims managers, insurer and lawyer.
There are more than 85,000 active owners corporations in Victoria, covering more than 772,000 individual lots. It is estimated that about 1.5 million Victorians – one-quarter of the state’s population – either live in or own property which is represented by an owners corporation.
The forum will also see the release of the National Building Manual Guideline which will ensure that all building plans, lists of materials and products used, manufacturer and maintenance instructions and warranty information are handed over to owners before the final occupancy permit is granted by the VBA.
