Interview with Emma Duffy, Journalist at The Real Estate Conversation

20 July, 2018

Emma is the editor and journalist of The Real Estate Conversation at Williams Media. Her work has been featured in Style MagazinesFashion Weekly, and The Creative Issue. Emma also has experience in radio and television.

When did you first decide you wanted to be a journalist?
I’ve always loved telling stories, but the decision to become a journalist came when I was studying Creative and Professional Writing at the Queensland University of Technology. I couldn’t see myself becoming the next J.K Rowling or Jodi Picoult, so I switched to journalism instead. It was the best decision I have ever made.

You’ve recently started working at Williams Media, how are you enjoying it so far?
It has been the steepest learning curve ever. Having said that though, I rock up every single day with the mindset of “bring it on”, and strive to do my job better than the day before. The highlight so far has been being the first to publish a story about Rebecca and Chris Judd selling their home in Brighton.

What has been one lesson you’ve taken from your experience that has helped you achieve your current career path?
Hustle and work hard. You can’t afford to become complacent in this industry. There’s always someone else out there who would kill to have your job, and would probably do it ten times better.

For a press release to grab your attention, what should it contain?
It must demonstrate an understanding of who they are pitching to. If a press release is delivered with a note explaining how the issue/product is relevant to our publication, it will always be gratefully received. Additionally, stunning high-resolution images and embeddable media assets can make or break a release.

Medianet is the ultimate PR platform connecting you with media contacts and outlets to get your story told.
