Builders Academy to Extend Offerings to NSW and QLD

BUILDERS ACADEMY TO EXTEND OFFERINGS TO NSW AND QLD

9 January 2015

Leading building and construction industry education provider Builders Academy Australia (BAA) has entered into an agreement to acquire all the shares of City-Wide Building and Training Services (CWBTS) for a maximum of $4 million, marking an important step in its expansion into NSW and Queensland markets.

The Simonds Group-owned RTO informed the ASX on Friday of their 100% acquisition of CWBTS, along with existing contracts with the NSW and QLD governments.

BAA General Manager Gerard Healy said that the acquisition was the next step in BAA's significant expansion up Australia's eastern seaboard.

"BAA's vision is to be Australia's number one provider of building and construction training. We can now extend our offer to the NSW and Queensland markets, taking our unique vocational training model to a greater number of participants within the building and construction industry," Mr Healy said.

"We will now be able to offer high standard Certificate II and III qualifications across a broad range of building and construction areas.

"This move affirms Builders Academy's durable position in the training industry, and demonstrates the Simonds Group's commitment to investing significantly in our business and in the future of the building and construction sector more broadly," he said.

"As a leader in the building and construction industry, we have a vested interest in ensuring that the skills base continues to improve.

"Currently there is a recognised shortage of skills in building and construction industries. Offering greater training to greater numbers of Australian builders is our way of addressing that shortage."

Under the terms of the $4 million deal, CWBTS management will join BAA as consultants, and assist BAA to integrate and grow the business.

The new offering will include Certificates II and III qualifications in construction, carpentry, concreting, scaffolding, steelfixing, formwork/falsework, civil construction, and civil construction plant operations, mostly in northern NSW and QLD.

Most of CWBTS's current training is delivered on site to new and existing workers in the civil and general construction industries in the delivery of apprenticeships and traineeships.
