THE ROVER to Debut at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival

The Rover has been invited to Premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. It will be presented in the Official Selection: Out of Competition.

Writer and Director David Michd will now join a long line of filmmakers who first screened at the Cannes Film Festival in this category.

Michd (best known for writing and directing the critically acclaimed Animal Kingdom) will be in attendance at the films international debut. He will be joined by leading man Guy Pearce (Animal Kingdom, Prometheus and Lawless) and co-star Robert Pattinson (Water for Elephants, Cosmopolis and Bel Ami).

It has also recently been announced Michd will write and direct the forthcoming production The Operators to star and be produced by Brad Pitt.

Roadshow Films Managing Director, Joel Pearlman said "David Michd has created an extraordinary film. We congratulate him, the Producers, Cast and Crew on this incredible achievement. Cannes remains the leading light among film festivals and this is a well deserved honour for The Rover."

The Cannes International Film Festival (Le Festival International du Film de Cannes), is one of the most prestigious and publicised film festivals in the world. Founded in 1946, this invitation-only event is held annually and previews new films of all genres from around the world.

The Rover
Ten years after a collapse of the western economic system, Australia's mineral resources have drawn the desperate and dangerous to its shores. With society in decline, the rule of law has disintegrated and life is cheap. Eric (GUY PEARCE) is a cold and angry drifter who has left everything and everyone behind.

When his car - his last possession - is stolen by a gang of desperate desert hustlers, Eric embarks on a ruthless mission to track them down. Along the way, he is forced into an unlikely relationship with Rey (ROBERT PATTINSON), the nave and injured younger brother of gang member Henry (SCOOT McNAIRY) who has left Rey behind in the bloody aftermath of the gang's most recent robbery.
