Macquarie wins Investment Manager of the Year three years in a row

Macquarie wins Investment Manager of the Year three years in a row

Macquarie Investment Management took out the top award at the annual Financial Standard Investment Leadership Awards in Sydney yesterday. This is the third year in a row the honour has gone to Macquarie.

The awards, presented by financial services trade publication Financial Standard, recognise Australian investment managers that have consistently produced solid returns while effectively managing investment risk.

The awards span 21 categories across six major asset class sectors, with analysis conducted by Rainmaker Information.

Investment managers that are leading their industry with exceptional investment outcomes should be acknowledged because they will push their industry to get even better and reward their investors with higher investment outcomes,” said John Dyall, head of investment research at Rainmaker Information.

To reveal Australia’s best investment managers, Rainmaker analysed the investment performance of each strategy against their peers alongside a range of important risk measures.

As part of this rigorous assessment Rainmaker considered more than seven factors, including performance over multiple time periods, volatility, downside risk and performance ratios.

The winner of the 2021 Investment Manager of the Year was Macquarie Investment Management, beating finalists BlackRock Investment Management, Pendal Group, State Street Global Advisors and Vanguard.

Macquarie was also named finalists in 11 of the 21 categories and named winner of five Product of the Year Awards including: Australian Equities – Small Cap, Australian Equities – Index/Enhanced, Fixed Income - Aggregate bonds, Multi-Asset – Capital Stable and Multi-Asset Balanced.

The funds management industry in Australia continues to grow, with Rainmaker research forecasting total funds under management (FUM) to double and reach $6 trillion within 20 years. The demand for exchange traded products (ETPs), managed accounts and sustainable strategies underpin much of the growth. As at end March 2021, there were almost 1000 Australian and global fund managers competing in Australia for institutional and wholesale investments of which about 100 offer managed funds solutions direct to market.

The winners of the 2021 Financial Standard Investment Leadership Awards are:
