$3.6M Under Cover Lawn Bowls Dome opens in Torrensville

One of Adelaide’s oldest and greatest lawn bowls club is now one of Australia's most modern clubs thanks to its new undercover hi-tech dome upgrade. Satisfying sporting, community and social senses, the eagerly awaited grand opening of TORRENSVILLE BOWLING CLUB will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 4pm. Senator the Hon. Anne Ruston, Minister for Families and Social Services will officially open the facility at a VIP ceremony where over 100 people will attend. Guest speakers also include Mr Corey Wingard MP, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing, and Mayor, City of West Torrens, Mr. Michael Coxon.

The $3.6M facility secured Australian Government funding of $750,000 to facilitate construction of the 12 rink under cover green, with works undertaken concurrently with club room renovations. The new state of the art facility puts South Australian lawn bowls firmly on the international map. Five minutes from the airport and the CBD respectively, the location is ideal for International and Interstate tournaments and for hosting social, community and corporate events.

Torrensville Bowling Club has a very rich history, made up of local clubs that have merged and amalgamated over its 100 year history. From Hindmarsh, Underdale, Thebarton, West Park and Adelaide Airport, it’s a very well loved part of the West Torrens district and their cultural history is one the club is very proud of.  The club’s vision is to foster a venue where locals and visitors can tap into the region’s roots and experience the unique atmosphere of diversity and one of the oldest sports in Australia.

Supporting its community focus the club is hosting a public event immediately after the official ceremony concludes, throwing open its gates at 6pm to host, Bowled Over.

The new under cover dome can play up to 96 players at any one time and with 450 people registered to attend and play it will be a full house. Club members will manage a ‘lightning carnival’ style play off where young teams will pit themselves against one another playing for giveaways and prizes throughout the evening.  The public event includes free admission tickets can be reserved through Eventbrite.

Shining bright under the new led lights, the community event is aimed at fostering the fun of lawn bowls with experienced professional players on the green coaching and mentoring beginners. A big part of the club's vision is to foster skill sharing with the most experienced players imparting knowledge to the young millennials, who like nothing more than to experience new things in a fun, fresh and energised environment.
