Recycling, drought, climate change and electric vehicles dominate local government’s national conference

Urgent action on climate change, recycling, drought, and preparing for more electric vehicles are among the topics set for the 25th National General Assembly, Australia’s largest meeting of local government leaders in Canberra, from 17-19 June.

Local councils will also share how they are dealing with challenges including housing affordability and Airbnb, infrastructure and population, reducing community harm from drug and alcohol use, and New Zealand’s experience with natural disasters.

Almost 900 delegates from across mainland Australia and Australian territories in the Indian and Pacific oceans will attend. The Assembly is organised and hosted by the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA), the peak body of local government.

Media are invited. ALGA President, Mayor David O'Loughlin, is available for interviews
