Sunset Cinema is back for the lazy, hazy days of Summer

Dust off your picnic baskets, bring out those summer frocks... The IMB Bank Sunset Cinema is returning to Canberra for a blockbuster Summer at the Botanic Gardens.

Screening from November 28, organisers say this year they’re bringing back a touch of magic to the outdoor cinema experience.

Founder, Simon Rollin says it’s about soaking up summer with all the elements that used to make a trip to the movies so special.

"When we were kids, a trip to the movies was a really big deal. We’re bringing back that sense of wonderment and making it an event that Canberra can be proud of" Mr Rollin said.

"We’re really lucky to have the Botanic Gardens as our venue. The bush backdrop adds a unique Aussie element to the silver screen and the after dark experience is a unique experience all in itself!!’

The pre-screening picnic vibe will be bolstered with live entertainment, free activity packs for the kids and plenty of food and drinks on offer.

"No one comes to the cinema to queue for food, so this year we’ve got a local food van as well as facilities for delivery services to drop off meals on site"

IMB Bank CEO, Rob Ryan, encouraged Canberra residents to support this growing community event; “We’re delighted to help bring the Canberra community together as principal partner of the IMB Bank Sunset Cinema. Each year the IMB Bank Sunset Cinema provides a fun and inclusive place for families and friends to come together and enjoy a movie in the stunning Canberra Botanic gardens.”

Among the latest Hollywood blockbuster movies programmed this year are Bradley Cooper’s latest release A Star is Born featuring himself alongside Lady Gaga, Bohemian Rhapsody and First Man starring Ryan Gosling.

This season also features VHS classics such as The Big Lebowski and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. For the families Small Foot, Goosebumps 2, The Lion King and Fantastic Beasts 2 all made the program.

Mr Ryan added, “The event organisers work hard to provide an outstanding mix of movies; there’s something for everyone. The event is well supported, growing each year and we’re sure this season will be no exception. And as a special bonus, IMB Bank members receive a 20% discount on tickets which we hope will drive even more support for this wonderful community initiative.”

The season runs until January 12 then will head to Wollongong, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Gates open nightly at 6:30pm with films starting around 8:30pm. General admission adult tickets are $20 and children under three are free.
