Richard Riordan




Well-known local businessman, Richard Riordan today confirmed his nomination for Preselection for the State seat of Polwarth following the sudden resignation of the former Member, Terry Mulder. 

Richard Riordan, aged 43 is married to Catherine and they have four children aged between 6 and 18. Richard is a fifth generation local and has a business degree from Monash University. His business, Riordan Colac Hire and Riordan LPG services a large area across south west Victoria. 

Well known for his involvement in the community, Richard is a government appointed member of the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, and has been a member and Board Chairman of Colac Area Heath.  Over the past three years Richard has been the  Chair of the Colac Area Health Foundation, and  has recently led the successful Long Road Appeal campaign to raise $350,000, for improved cancer services in the Colac area.  

Richard is or has been involved in the Colac Business & Retailers Group (Chair for three years); Friends of Lake Colac (Founder and Chair for ten years); Sacred Heart School Board (Chair for two years); Colac Adult Education Board of Management; Colac Economic Development Board; and various Colac Otway Shire Advisory Committees. 

Catherine and Richard have regularly opened their home garden in Elliminyt for The Open Gardens Scheme, and a variety of other charitable causes.

Richard was a Rotary Exchange student to Canada in 1989 and won a Rotary GSE scholarship to Russia in 2007. 

As a member of the Liberal Party for over twenty years, Richard has had numerous leadership roles at branch and electorate level and has also been elected to State committees.
