The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll will live on this morning at Sydney’s Central Station as devotees board the NSW TrainLink Elvis Express bound for the annual Elvis Festival in Parkes to celebrate the life and music of Elvis Presley.

Elvis tribute artists will entertain the crowd at Central’s Grand Concourse before leading festival-goers in a conga line to board the train for its departure from platform one at 9.36am.

NSW TrainLink Chief Executive Rob Mason and Parkes Chamber of Commerce President Geoff Rice will welcome customers as they prepare to board the XPT train for a fun filled journey.

“From humble beginnings eleven years ago when we had 16 fans aboard, this year we will welcome almost 400 dedicated followers of the King to start their festival party before leaving Sydney,” Mr Mason said.

“Tickets were again in hot demand selling out within hours back in September, giving those on board an Elvis themed journey all the way to Parkes.

“As the train begins the climb over the Blue Mountains, some of Australia’s best known Elvis tribute artists will be in the aisles entertaining the devoted fans of the King with a backdrop of the magnificent New South Wales countryside outside.

“The Elvis Festival is celebrating 25 years this year and NSW TrainLink is proud to operate one of the world’s unique train journeys to one of the most popular events in regional New South Wales,” Mr Mason said.

The theme of the festival this year is ‘Viva Las Vegas’ and Elvis fans on the train will enjoy four days of Elvis mania featuring more than 120 free and ticketed events, shows, concerts and competitions.

The tribute show at Central Station will kick off at 7am, before customers begin boarding the train at 9am for the 9.36am departure.

The Elvis Express is due to arrive at Parkes Station at 4.15pm.
