13 September, 2016 – New Zealand’s favorite retailer to officially commence development at Kmart Petone mid - September, 2016. Kmart Petone will cater to local residents. The design of the development has been influenced by consultation with neighbours and the Hutt City Council to address the needs of the community, the area’s future development requirements, the environment, and potential pedestrian and traffic issues. It seeks to completely reinvent an old industrial property into a modern retail environment.

Ebert Construction Ltd has been appointed for the build starting preliminary works immediately. A national construction contractor, Ebert Construction Ltd is based locally in Petone and will be employing from within the community across the construction industry.

The 5,200 m2 store showcases Kmart’s new store layout that is being rolled out across both New Zealand and Australia, designed with coloured worlds to ensure the customer shopping experience is convenient and enjoyable.

Kmart Petone will provide locals with all Kmart coloured world categories including apparel for men, women and children, toys, health and beauty, homewares, stationery, and sporting goods. The new store has noticeable updates including wider aisles and bolder graphics to make navigating around the store easier.

“Kmart is excited to commence the development of our new Petone site in September, our second store in Wellington. I along with the entire Kmart team can’t wait to make available our products at great low prices and we look forward to being able to support the local community.” Kmart New Zealand Manager of
Operations, Sue Smith.

Ebert will provide local jobs during the development stage and then Kmart upon completion when the store opens, with close to 80 locals being employed as part time and full time team members who reflect Kmart’s values and passion for retail. Kmart New Zealand will commence the recruitment journey for its Petone store from early 2017. Completion of the construction is scheduled to conclude the second quarter of 2017.
