What is SmartList and how do I use it?

SmartList is an AI‑powered feature designed to simplify and improve how you target media. By scanning the content of your press release and identifying key topics, SmartList automatically generates a targeted list of the most relevant journalists from Medianet’s Contacts Database to help you reach the right people.

What is SmartList?

SmartList uses advanced AI algorithms to analyse your press release and match its key themes with journalists who have nominated those subjects as topics of interest.

Instead of manually searching, filtering and building lists, SmartList does the heavy lifting for you — delivering a ready‑made, highly relevant distribution list in seconds. 

 

How to use SmartList

  1. Select Press Releases from the menu options and click Create Press Release.
  2. Complete the steps to set up your press release content.
  3. Once the content has been saved, navigate to the Target audiences section and click Set audiences.
  4. A window will slide out displaying list options. Click Generate SmartList.
  5. SmartList scans your press release content to identify key topics, then automatically generates a targeted list of relevant journalists from the Contacts Database.
  6. After reviewing the list, click Add List to use the SmartList on its own, or combine it with Medianet lists and/or your own saved lists before completing the set up and submitting your press release.

Additional information

  • Recipient limits: Each SmartList is capped at a maximum of 500 recipients to ensure optimal performance and manage distribution limits.

  • Minimum list size: SmartLists will generate a minimum of 50 recipients.

  • Plan availability: SmartList is available on all Outreach subscription and Pay‑Per‑Release (PPR) plans.

  • Quota management: For customers on Essentials and Advance Outreach plans, the number of recipients included in a SmartList will simply be deducted from monthly distibution credits. 

  • Pay‑Per‑Release (PPR) pricing : SmartList is priced at $300 + GST per list.
