Medianet offers two types of Mention Reports to help you track, compile, and share media mentions: Curated Mention Reports and Scheduled Newsletters. Both options provide flexible ways to gather and distribute relevant mentions.
Curated Mention Reports
Curated Mention Reports allow you to create custom, shareable reports using selected mentions from your media monitoring searches. These reports can be shared internally or externally, making them ideal for media summaries, stakeholder briefings or daily newsletters.
You can combine mentions from multiple saved searches into one report, where each search appears as its own section, giving you flexibility to group and structure your content by theme.
Why use a Curated Mention Report?
Curated Mention Reports give you complete control over which mentions you include, how they are grouped, and how they appear in your final report.
They are especially useful if you want to:
- Build your own daily or weekly media briefing.
- Combine mentions from multiple topics (e.g. brand, competitors, industry).
- Add insights, summaries or commentary alongside selected mentions.
- Share structured, branded reports directly with stakeholders. (Contact us at team@medianet.com.au to find out how you can add your logo and brand colour to reports)
Key features:
1. Multi-search compilation
You can select mentions from multiple saved searches and combine them into a single report.
-
Each saved search appears as a separate section in the final report.
-
The section header automatically uses the name of the original search, helping readers identify each theme or category.
2. Section-based sorting options
Each section in your Curated Mention Report includes its own sorting panel.
You can choose to sort mentions within that section by:
- Date (newest → oldest or oldest → newest)
- Sentiment (positive, neutral, negative)
- Media type (online, print, broadcast, social)
This makes it easy to present coverage in the order or style that best fits your internal reporting format.
3. Manual reordering via drag and drop
In addition to automated sorting, you can manually adjust the order of mentions using drag-and-drop controls.
- Reorder individual mentions within each section.
- Move entire sections (search groupings) to rearrange the report flow.
This gives you full editorial control over the layout of your report before it is shared.
4. Selecting mentions
Mentions can be added to a Curated Mention Report in several ways:
- From a Saved Search results page — you can create a new Mention Report or add to an existing draft directly.
- From Mention Reports in the menu, you can individually select mentions or use filters to refine your selection.
This flexibility allows you to build reports quickly from different monitoring streams.
5. Mention limits and alerts
To maintain performance and readability:
- Each Curated Mention Report supports up to 500 mentions in total.
- A real-time counter shows how many mentions you have added.
- If you reach the limit, a pop-up alert will appear and prevent further additions.
6. Preview, save and share
Before finalising your report, you can preview the full layout — including all sections, headings and selected mentions.
Reports can then be:
- Saved for future editing or reuse.
- Downloaded in supported formats.
- Shared directly using the platform’s export or email options.
The Report Summary section of a Curated Mention Report or a Scheduled Newsletter now supports rich text formatting. This allows you to create more engaging introductions or insights that accompany your selected mentions — ideal for internal briefings or external stakeholder updates.
Scheduled Newsletters
Scheduled Newsletters automate mention reports for one or more active searches, delivering the latest mentions on a regular schedule (e.g., daily or weekly) to keep you and your team consistently informed.
Key features:
- Customisation: Control the content, frequency, and recipients of each Scheduled Newsletter.
- Automated delivery: Get regular updates with the latest mentions and trends. Recipients can be both registered users and non-users. Non-users will have read-only access, which provides a simplified view and excludes features such as "View Outlet", "View Contact", "Add to List", and "Share Mention". These remain exclusive to registered platform users.
- Top mentions: Each Newsletter lists the top five most recent mentions per search. Full reports are accessible through the Medianet platform or can be downloaded as a PDF.
Scheduled Newsletters are ideal for ongoing updates on media coverage, industry insights, or competitor monitoring. For instance, you can set up a Newsletter to deliver a summary of the past 24 hours’ media coverage every morning. Note: If a Newsletter includes any Private searches, it can only be emailed to you, the search owner.
Group Similar Mentions
Both Curated Mention Reports and Scheduled Newsletters have an optional “Group similar mentions” feature to consolidate similar media mentions. This feature, available only for online mentions, groups mentions that meet the following criteria:
- 90% similarity in headline wording or 70% similarity in body content.
- Publication within 7 days of each other.
When enabled, similarity grouping displays only the most recent article in a group, with other similar mentions referenced below it, accessible via a hyperlink. This keeps your report concise while still highlighting recurring themes.
