Stronger families = stronger communities: National Families Week 2019
Australian communities will celebrate the importance of families in locally organised events around the country to mark National Families Week, 15 to 21 May 2019. Over 126,000 people are registered to take part.
‘Families are the most important building block of communities, societies and nations. I believe strongly that we need to think more about the value of families and do more to support our and others’ families, whatever form they take. What does your family mean to you? What do you give to and get from your family? At times family life can undoubtedly be challenging, but families are the best places to share and to be understood,’ said Families Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Brian Babington. ‘National Families Week is a great opportunity to pause and take stock of how we can all work for greater family wellbeing.’
The aim of National Families Week 2019 is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society. The enduring theme is 'Stronger families, stronger communities'.
National Families Week is supported and promoted by Champions, prominent Australians who are supporters of families and family wellbeing.
National Families Week coincides with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May, the day observed by the United Nations to mark the importance placed on families as the most fundamental units of society, and to show the international community’s concern for family issues in many parts of the world.
Families Australia is a national, member-based, not-for-profit organisation that works to promote the needs and interests of families, especially those experiencing disadvantage. National Families Week is sponsored by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
