FERRYTALE WEDDINGS FOR VALENTINE'S DAY
EMBARGOED UNTIL WEDNESDAY 14 FEBRUARY 2018
FERRYTALE WEDDINGS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY
Seventeen couples will set sail for a lifetime of happiness today, making history when they exchange vows aboard the iconic Manly ferry on Sydney Harbour.
For the first time, the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages (BDM) is conducting weddings on the water, as part of a Valentine’s Day promotion.
"The lucky couples will be spoilt for choice when it comes to great views – whether it’s looking into the eyes of their beloved or gazing across our picture-perfect harbour," said BDM Registrar Amanda Ianna.
Bedecked with ribbons and bows, three ‘love boats’ will transport couples and guests to the ultimate destination wedding.
"Ferry services will be departing Circular Quay and Manly from 9.30am until 3.15pm and the loved-up couples will have a stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House when they say ‘I do’," Ms Ianna said.
"Despite the million dollar views, the weddings cost just $572 each – leaving some newlyweds with a bit of spare cash to put towards a honeymoon or home deposit."
Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year for Births Deaths and Marriages, with ceremonies to be held at a Sydney CBD wine bar, registries in Chippendale and Parramatta and a beachside hotel in Wollongong.
BDM will conduct 81 Valentine’s Day weddings, including 10 services for same sex couples.
